Gilding the Lily since 2006
With tons of extra snips of things.
View this post on Instagram I am finally back in my own kitchen, and after half a week of eating nothing but dumplings, noodles, and Japanese junk food, all I want to eat is vegetables. Luckily, I had a fridge full of borscht things and a hanker for Russian flavors, since my piece on Wolgadeustche culinary identity just came out in @oregonhumanities mag. This mild weather also means I still have lovely garden stuff: nasturtium, broccoli and Brussels sprouts leaves; marigold blossoms; Mitsuba parsley. I added a few goodly wads of my (now nicely ripe) Slavic kimchi for acidity, requisite sour cream, and black bread. Here’s to coming home.
