Tl;dr: I WON A WRITING AWARD! 🖤 I’m excited to announce that my story for @oregonhumanities Magazine’s Fall/Winter 2018 issue, “Black Nightshade and Bierocks,” has won an Outstanding Food & Drink Article award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors! To celebrate, here’s a photo of my great-uncle Johann (John) Arndt at his 1924 confirmation at Zion Congregational Church (now the home of @doorofhopepdx) on NE 8th/Fremont in Portland, Oregon. He was born in the Norka colony, near modern-day Saratov, Russia.
